The Central Nexus is Extropia's communal hub, placed at the dead centre of Extropia Core. It was the first building to be made and was the centrepiece of our nation's opening flag ceremony.

Facilities

The Nexus' focal point is the salon venue, one of the nation's best-attended attractions. The first floor, a mezzanine construction, and the bulk of the Nexus' tower host a variety of small offices, all designed to centre our community. The second floor of the public Nexus is a balcony and arboretum, offering unparalleled views to Tycho Peninsula, past its beach and the Nexus Marina to the entertainment district and the suburbs beyond. Fireworks and laser displays are being considered as functions to be held on this floor.

Transportation

As well as being a starting point for many pedestrian tourists, the Nexus also provides a public marina, a cable car service to the shopping district on Hubble, and a monorail station at its tip to serve outlying regions.

History

  • 6th November 2007: Work begins on building the first Central Nexus - an open-plan base and tall tower leading out to a flagpole from where we were to launch the flag ceremony. Construction of all its interiors finished on the 27th of November.
  • 25th November 2007: The Nexus holds its first ever salon, a talk by Michel Manen of Al-Andalus, present in Extropia to discuss Islamic ideals in our digital domain. Article here.
  • 2nd December 2007: The first concert to be played in the Nexus is performed to stunned audiences by musimmersionist and later citizen of Extropia, Grace McDunnough. Article here.
  • 15th December 2007: The Nexus receives a corporate presence as Yel Oh of Philips Design presents a demonstration and discussion of a 'Design Probe' into reactive tattoos. Sadly, the event also draws some negative attention from Second Life bloggers. Article here.
  • 31st December 2007: Work on a newer, tidier version of the Nexus begins, making for a larger floorplan, two levels of public facilities and a neater finish to its decor. Work continued through January and February 2008, despite the facility being opened for limited public use on the 28th of January.
