From Extropia

Extropia was founded by Galatea Gynoid, Sophrosyne Stenvaag, Vidal Tripsa, and Argent Bury in November of 2007. Several members of this group had been looking for a futuristic/sci-fi sim in Second Life, but were disappointed to discover that nearly all of them were post-apocalyptic, dystopian, or otherwise undesirable for anyone looking for an up-beat, positive view of the future. We decided to create a place where the future is bright, the singularity is near, and artificial people like ourselves can call it home.

Backstory

In the early part of the 21st century, a group of forward looking individuals start a foundation for creating a new nation, a techno-utopia in which individuals are free to be whoever and whatever they want to be, even augmenting or recreating themselves technologically if they so choose. Inspired by an aborted late 20th-century effort (Oceania: The Atlantis Project), they decide to create a floating city to build their dreams upon. They call their new nation Extropia.

Today, Extropia has become a haven for utopian dreamers, human, transhuman, and non-human alike. It is a growing community spreading out across the surface of the ocean and across the ocean floors. Connected in an information-rich networked community, the free exchange of ideas and advancing technology brings us ever closer to each other, and to our dreams.
